Cherie Rineker and I were on the same stage discussing CAR-T therapy earlier this year. I am now 18 months out from getting the genetically modified cells for my CLL and my disease is undetectable. Cherie’s myeloma came back and she passed yesterday. So sad. She was a strong and upbeat woman who did things her own way. She will be missed by all those who knew her. And she pushes us to improve CAR-T so that more can be helped. Need to keep pushing.
I am off to speak to the CAR-T manufacturing team at JUNO/CELGENE next week. Cherie was there last year. Life isn’t fair and blood cancers don’t always play nice. Very sad.
