This content was current as of the date it was released. In science and medicine, information is constantly changing and may become out-of-date as new data emerge.
Well, I say it’s about time we heard some promising news! In this week’s Opinion section of our website, we bring you Dr. Adrian Warnock’s thoughtful analysis of some encouraging data showing that Regeneron’s man-made monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against COVID-19 can save lives in those who did not produce antibodies to the COVID-19 vaccines. Will this timely information spur the delivery of mAbs to all who could benefit from this prophylaxis? Dr. Warnock is calling upon healthcare systems around the world to make monoclonal antibody therapy against COVID-19 readily available for all. This includes those who have failed to produce antibodies post-vaccine, regardless of whether or not they have been exposed to the virus. Read his thought-provoking opinion piece here.

During ASH 2020, Dr. Richard Furman and CLL Society’s Board Chair, Steve Bloom discussed striving for uMRD and prolonged progression-free survival as it pertains to the CAPTIVATE and MURANO studies. In recent years there has been a decreased reliance on both chemo-immunotherapies and sequential use of targeted therapies. Now, combination drug therapies that can allow patients to attain undetectable MRD to control their CLL are being used more readily. Although evidence has shown that patients who achieve uMRD have more prolonged progression-free survival and overall survival, the optimal duration of treatment to reach uMRD has yet to be determined.
