Be Prepared in Case COVID Hits – Introduction

In science and medicine, information is constantly changing and may become out-of-date as new data emerge. All articles and interviews are informational only, should never be considered medical advice, and should never be acted on without review with your health care team.

Despite doing everything right, CLL patient Rick Field still contracted COVID-19, likely due the double hit his already impaired immunity took from his trial of the dyad of venetoclax which lowers the neutrophils and obinutizumab that wipes out the B cells and with them, the body’s ability to form antibodies.  And it worked for his CLL, knocking the cancer down below the detectable level of measurable residual disease (uMRD).

With his impaired immunity, one would expect Rick to get very sick with COVID-19, and as he describes it, it hasn’t been easy, but he has stayed out of hospital because, again, he was prepared and made all the right moves.

Rick’s story is instructive and offers those of us with battered immunity much hope. Please read what he has to say and please complete our COVID-19 Checklists to be prepared like Rick.

Please read Rick’s story here.

Stay strong.  We are all in this together.
