Patients with monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (MBL), a precursor to chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), were at increased risk of severe infections, according to an analysis of records from participants collected in the Mayo Clinic Biobank.
Dr. Susan Slager and colleagues presented this research at the American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting, which was held in December 2021 (ASH 2021)
Exciting news from Mayo Clinic researchers, the presence of low count monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis does not negatively affect survival and might improve survival in females. Further investigation is ongoing to understand this observation.
The overall hospitalization rate was only 5.2%, and the mortality rate (MR) was 1.3% in COVID-19-infected patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (MBL), a CLL precursor.
Now that most healthcare settings have lifted mask requirements, we must be active in asking for the protections we need and are entitled to.
Targeted oral treatment options for CLL and SLL are medications taken by mouth that identify and attack specific cancer cells.
A variety of tests are used to capture images inside the body when chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and small
lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) are present. Imaging tests are used to look inside the body to capture pictures that will help the healthcare team visualize what, if any, internal changes might be occurring.
