I was diagnosed with CLL in July 2013. I had a blood test for a sore throat. The lymphocyte count was only 5 – borderline – but it was a shock. My wife and I met with the oncologist who told us we were on “watch and wait”, with blood tests every six months. I had no lymph nodes and my hemoglobin and platelets were fine. But like most patients we weren’t entirely comfortable with watch and wait.
Mark, a fellow CLL patient shares how he manages watch and wait and what works for him. His story is meant as an example and not a recommendation of any particular diet or supplements. Always check with your physician before changing your diet or starting on any supplements.
The concept of just watching and waiting until ‘the enemy was ready to slay me’, then ‘go to war’, seemed a little antiquated.
Many patients wish to control their CLL naturally without the use of medications. Some are trying to see if tea made from cordyceps mushroom helps.
