Ask the Doctor: Vaccinations for CLL patients

In science and medicine, information is constantly changing and may become out-of-date as new data emerge. All articles and interviews are informational only, should never be considered medical advice, and should never be acted on without review with your health care team.

Question

I am confused about the use of vaccinations as a CLL patient. Do I still get annual flu vaccinations? IF there is a Covid-19 vaccine should I get it? Should I get the Pneumococcal vaccine? What about a Tetanus Booster?

Answer

We recommend that CLL patients get all their suggested “killed” vaccines including the two pneumonia shots, the annual flu shot and a tetanus booster when it’s due.

Never get any of the live vaccines such as MMR or Yellow Fever.
