Am I correct in thinking that since there has been no real correlation between the B cell count and getting COVID, should I continue to live like I am unvaccinated?

Ask the Doctor Question:

I am part of the LLS Registry program and also part of a study group on B & T cells. After the first two vaccines of Moderna, my antibody count was of 3.26 and after the 3rd Moderna vaccine my count was <2500.

Being that I am taking Imbruvica which kept the first number low and now the second is >2500, what does that mean? Am I correct in thinking that since there has been no real correlation between the B cell count and getting COVID, should I continue to live like I am unvaccinated?

Answer: Congratulations on your ROBUST response to the booster vaccine! >2500 is the highest result that you can possibly receive on that particular test. You are also correct when you say there are no data yet that indicate how this number (or any other number for that matter) correlates to level of protection to COVID-19. But we can ascertain that the higher the count, the better.

Yes, please continue to live as if you are unvaccinated and take all precautions at this time. Also, if you haven’t already done so, please complete your COVID-19 Action Plan so that should there be an unfortunate known exposure or infection with COVID-you will already be as prepared as you can possibly be.
