Dr. Brian Koffman Quoted in Verywell Health Article on COVID-19 Vaccinations for the Immunocompromised

In science and medicine, information is constantly changing and may become out-of-date as new data emerge. All articles and interviews are informational only, should never be considered medical advice, and should never be acted on without review with your health care team.

In a Verywell Health article published on May 10, 2023, “Immunocompromised Individuals Need More Guidance About COVID Vaccine Timelines,” CLL Society’s Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brian Koffman, provided his expert opinion regarding the most recent CDC recommendations for COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccinations in those who are immunocompromised (IC).

Dr. Koffman emphasized that there are little data available on bivalent vaccine response levels and efficacy for IC individuals specifically. Although generally, we do have plenty of data indicating the more boosters the better the response. More research is extremely important in this area to better guide IC individuals in deciding when it is best to receive additional bivalent booster doses.

CLL Society recommends all those diagnosed with CLL / SLL, regardless of treatment status, follow the most current FDA and CDC recommendations. Talk with your healthcare provider about obtaining a second bivalent booster dose if at least two months have passed since your initial bivalent COVID-19 booster dose.
