Ask the Doctor Question:
My replacement knee has an infection, I was on IV broad spectrum antibiotics for six-weeks starting 8/26. Per oncologist, off Imbruvica from 8/23-8/30. I had started Imbruvica three-months ago and three days later my knee had signs of infection. My orthopedic wants me off Imbruvica. With infection being an issue with Imbruvica, should I stop this medication? I am also on eliquis and 15 ml of heparin gd with the antibiotics
Answer: Generally, when infections of this seriousness occur in CLL, getting rid of the infection takes precedence. But we strongly encourage you to request that your orthopedic doctor and CLL expert can arrange to speak with one another to coordinate a plan so everyone can make a shared decision. Also, hopefully an infectious disease physician is involved in your case at this point as well.
