Ask the Doctor: Vaccinations for CLL patients

This content was current as of the date it was released. In science and medicine, information is constantly changing and may become out-of-date as new data emerge.

I am confused about the use of vaccinations as a CLL patient. Do I still get annual flu vaccinations? IF there is a Covid-19 vaccine should I get it? Should I get the Pneumococcal vaccine? What about a Tetanus Booster?

We recommend that CLL patients get all their suggested “killed” vaccines including the two pneumonia shots, the annual flu shot and a tetanus booster when it’s due.

Never get any of the live vaccines such as MMR or Yellow Fever.

For more details and a link to the CDC’s information for special patients such as those with CLL, please see our website’s Vaccine for CLL Patients that should answer all your questions.
