Ask the Pharmacist Question:
I just listened to the multi dis perspective BTK inhibitors webinar. I thought I heard calcium channel blockers are contraindicated with ibrutinib. Wondering if this is true? Whether 2.5 mg of norvasc would be contraindicated with 420 mg of ibrutinib?
I may have found the answer to my question: Is it that even though amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker, it is not a CYP3A4 inhibitor?
So, where verapamil or diltiazem would be contraindicated with ibrutinib, amlodipine would be okay?
Answer: Thank you for your question. You are correct there is not an issue with amlodipine and ibrutinib being taken together. While some calcium channel blockers are an issue, amlodipine is not one of them.
