In mid-March, CLL Society co-signed a letter by the All Copays Count Coalition (ACCC) regarding the Help Ensure Lower Patient Copays Act (“HELP Copays Act”), a bipartisan act that offers a solution to help eliminate barriers to treatment for patients with complex chronic illness. If enacted, the HELP Copays Act would require health plans to count the value of drug copay assistance towards patient cost-sharing requirements and prevent employer health plans from deeming certain drugs as “non-essential.” Charitable and industry copay assistance helps patients afford their treatments and should not be subject to tactics that expose patients to unexpected costs or disincentivize such programs.
As we did last year, we continue to join other patient organizations in advocating for this bill.
