Albie Suozzi lived with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) for 17 years before starting treatment with the targeted therapy acalabrutinib in 2023. Like many individuals diagnosed with CLL, she did not have any symptoms in the beginning and lived a normal life while in the watch and wait period, also called active observation.
Even before she needed treatment, Albie saw her CLL diagnosis as an opportunity to become intentional about her health, including being mindful of her diet and getting important nutrients. When she began experiencing side effects after starting treatment, she had to continue learning how to give her body the care and rest it needed while fighting the CLL.
Throughout her journey, she has found comforting support and vital education from CLL Society. Albie is now involved with the organization in multiple ways both professionally and as a volunteer for our programs, helping fellow individuals with CLL learn about their disease and get the best care.
