Ask the Doctor Question:

I received the original Pfizer shot in 12/2020. How do I get the booster shot? I am confused. I am in Traverse City, MI. Can I just go to Walgreens?

Answer: We just wrote a piece on this subject that can be found here. We are beginning to hear anecdotal reports of some people who are easily going to any pharmacy/health department and getting the booster, but also reports of people who are having difficulty because for whatever reason, the location has not yet been educated on the new CDC/FDA guidance.

We are going to wait a few more days to see if we continue to hear reports of CLL patients having difficulties receiving them. If we do, we may be writing a letter/statement from the CLL Society that you can take in hand with you to the vaccinating location which explains you have CLL and qualify to receive the booster shot.

If for whatever reason you are turned down at the first location you try, we recommend you just keep trying other locations. Unfortunately, until the general public becomes well aware of the new guidance, there may be bumps in the road. You could also request a written letter from your physician that briefly explains your need for a third shot/booster.

We hope that helps!
