CLL Society Recognizes Difficulties in Clinical Trial Participation

In science and medicine, information is constantly changing and may become out-of-date as new data emerge. All articles and interviews are informational only, should never be considered medical advice, and should never be acted on without review with your health care team.

This summer, CLL Society banded with numerous other organizations in support of legislation to address some of the difficulties with clinical trial enrollment.

The Clinical Trial Modernization Act would, if passed, remove economic barriers to clinical trial participation by allowing sponsors to financially support trial participants for both medical (e.g., copay and coinsurance) and non-medical (e.g., travel, lodging, childcare) costs associated with the trial. It would also facilitate remote participation by allowing trial sponsors to provide patients with necessary digital health technology. It also ensure $2,000 of non-reimbursable financial support from clinical trial sponsors that would not be subject to federal taxation or counted against income limitations for safety net programs (e.g., Medicaid).
